RIDGEVILLE, S.C. — Residents of a Ridgeville neighborhood were told to stay inside Monday evening while police and sheriff deputies hunted for a suspect they described as armed and dangerous.
The Ridgeville Police Department said the person had been firing a gun around Maple Street and Beach Street. The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office sent deputies to help town officers, and the search area stretched between Gum Street and Poplar Street.
People living nearby were asked to remain in their homes, lock their doors and windows, and keep away from the area while officers worked the scene.
Later in the evening, the sheriff’s office said all personnel had left the scene and residents no longer needed to shelter in place. Officers said the danger to neighbors had passed.
Officials have not said whether anyone was taken into custody or whether anyone was hurt. No arrest or charges had been announced as of early Tuesday.
