CHARLESTON, S.C. — Firefighters in Charleston, S.C., knocked down a fire at an apartment complex along Ashley River Road on Tuesday afternoon, and the blaze left no one hurt, city officials said.
The call brought city fire engines to an apartment on Ashley River Road, in its 1400 block. Crews got the flames under control fast and then went through the unit to make sure every resident had gotten out.
Charleston police blocked the stretch from Playground Road to Ashley Hall Road both ways while crews worked, asking drivers to find another route. Traffic was flowing again roughly an hour later.
Fire marshals came to the scene to look into the fire. Officials did not immediately say what started it or how many residents were affected.
