CHARLESTON, S.C. — The College of Charleston men opened their basketball season Monday night by blowing out Southern Wesleyan, 111-55, at TD Arena.
Eli Ellis paced the Cougars with 16 points on an efficient night, making 6 of his 8 shots and 4 of his 5 attempts from beyond the arc. Xavier Abreu chipped in 14 points while hitting 7 of 11 shots, and Ben Bradford finished with 12.
Southern Wesleyan got 11 points from Isaiah Smith and nine from RJ Lacossade, but the Warriors could not keep pace as Charleston poured in more than 100 points in its debut.
The win followed an 89-83 exhibition victory over Furman at TD Arena on Oct. 25.
The Cougars stay home for their next game, hosting Newberry on Friday at 7 p.m. at TD Arena. After that, Charleston makes its first road trip of the season to Temple on Nov. 11, then returns home to face South Carolina State on Nov. 15.
