NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office is running a death investigation after human remains were discovered Wednesday morning in the 300 block of Dorchester Manor Boulevard in North Charleston.
Deputies were called to the area after the remains were found at about 10:34 a.m. By around 12:20 p.m., investigators from the sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division and its Crime Scene Unit were working the site.
The sheriff’s office said it knows of no threat to the public. People who live nearby were asked to stay clear of the scene and to expect more deputies in the neighborhood while the case stays open.
The Dorchester County Coroner’s Office had not identified the person as of Wednesday afternoon, and the sheriff’s office has not said how the person died or how long the remains had been there.
This part of North Charleston sits inside Dorchester County, which is why county deputies rather than city police are handling the case. More information is expected once the coroner completes an identification.
