MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. — The Charleston Battery start their postseason at home Friday night, hosting Rhode Island FC at Patriots Point Soccer Stadium in Mount Pleasant, S.C., in an Eastern Conference quarterfinal of the USL Championship playoffs. Kickoff is 7 p.m.
Charleston is the No. 2 seed in the East and Rhode Island is No. 7. It is the third postseason in a row that the two clubs have been paired, and Rhode Island won both earlier playoff meetings in Charleston, among them the 2024 conference final.
The Battery locked up the second seed on Oct. 24 with a 1-0 home win over Indy Eleven, decided by a Colton Swan header in the 78th minute. Charleston also beat Rhode Island 2-0 at Patriots Point on Sept. 26.
The Battery scored 56 regular-season goals, tops in the East and second across the league, and their 11 home wins led the USL Championship. Swan and Maalique Foster each scored nine times, while Miguel Berry and Emilio Ycaza had eight apiece.
The quarterfinal round in both conferences opens Friday, and the league championship final is set for Saturday, Nov. 21.
