CHARLESTON, S.C. — Drivers heading downtown Sunday morning should plan around the annual Veterans Day Parade, which will shut streets along its route in Charleston from 8:30 a.m. until about noon on Nov. 8.

The parade forms up at Concord and Market streets, heads along East Bay Street and wraps up on Broad Street close to Colonial Lake, according to the Charleston Police Department.

Units start lining up at 8:30 a.m. on Concord and Pritchard streets in the stretch between North Market and Hazel. A program with opening remarks and the national anthem comes at 9:30 a.m., and marchers step off at 10 a.m. as officers close streets on a rolling basis ahead of them.

City officials expect the last units to finish and every street on the route to reopen by noon. Getting into the South of Broad neighborhood will be harder than usual while the parade is moving, and officers will be posted along the way to direct traffic and help residents reach their homes.

Police released the route and closure schedule on Nov. 5 so families, churchgoers and downtown workers can pick another way in before the crowds arrive.
