The Citadel Prepares for Southern Conference Rivalry
The Citadel is set to host Chattanooga in a Southern Conference rivalry matchup on Saturday at Johnson Hagood Stadium in Charleston, SC. The Citadel enters the game with a 1-2 record.
The team began its season with a 42-14 loss to Wofford. In Week 2, The Citadel secured its first win of the season, defeating Charlotte 43-31 in triple overtime. Following that, The Citadel experienced a double overtime loss to in-town rival Charleston Southern, with a final score of 26-20.
In their most recent game, The Citadel’s rushing attack gained over 200 yards. Gavin Garcia led the rush with 23 carries for 84 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Quentin Hayes contributed 67 rushing yards on 19 carries.
Chattanooga Seeks Second Consecutive Win
Chattanooga is aiming for back-to-back wins after a 41-7 victory over Wofford in its first conference game of the season. Chattanooga’s season started with a win against West Georgia, followed by close losses to No. 17 Tennessee Tech and Eastern Kentucky.
Against Wofford, Chattanooga finished with 34 unanswered points and rushed for more than 300 yards. Journey Wyche led Chattanooga’s rushing effort with 122 yards and a touchdown, while Kevin Lalin added 110 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Battle Alberson had 46 passing yards in the last game.
