Bulldogs Battle UNCG to a Draw
The Citadel Bulldogs’ soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against UNCG. Samantha Grantham scored for the Bulldogs, converting a penalty kick late in the first half, which gave her team the lead. This goal marked Grantham’s eighth of the season, placing her back in the lead for goals scored in the Southern Conference.
UNCG equalized in the 77th minute after an extended weather delay. Laney Smith scored her fifth goal of the season for UNCG at 76:42. Head coach Ciaran Traquair noted that the lightning delay occurred at an inopportune moment, as he felt the team had strong momentum and was pursuing a second goal.
The Citadel is scheduled to play a Southern Conference match at Mercer on Thursday, October 1. Kickoff for that game is set for 7 p.m. in Macon, Georgia.
