Charleston will soon be home to a unique golf facility designed exclusively for young people, as First Tee Greater Charleston recently announced plans for a youth-only golf course and leadership campus in West Ashley. This development, unveiled on September 19, marks a significant investment in youth sports and character development within the community.
The distinguishing feature of the new course is its policy: adults will only be permitted to play if they are accompanied by a child. This approach emphasizes the organization’s commitment to creating a dedicated space for youth engagement in golf.
The comprehensive facility will include a nine-hole golf course, a driving range, and a short-game area. Beyond the playing fields, the campus is set to feature a 10,000-square-foot leadership center. This center will house a nutrition hub, golf simulators for year-round practice, and classrooms dedicated to educational programming. The initiative aims to offer a holistic development experience, combining athletic training with life skills education.
First Tee Greater Charleston has been actively involved in the local community for 22 years, currently serving over 1,000 children annually through various programs. The new West Ashley campus is expected to significantly expand this reach, allowing the organization to serve an additional 1,000 children each year. The expansion will enable more young Charlestonians to participate in golf and benefit from the organization’s character-building curriculum.
The organization has been working towards this project for the past three years, with the goal of establishing a permanent home for its programs. The new facility will provide a dedicated space to further its mission of impacting the lives of young people through the game of golf.
