Shelby Gilbert, a former collegiate golfer for the Miami Hurricanes, completed her sophomore season in 2010-11, building on a strong freshman year. Her career statistics show she participated in nine events, playing 25 rounds with a total of 1943 strokes, averaging 77.72 per round. Her lowest round recorded was 70, and she achieved one top-10 finish.
During her freshman year in 2009-10, Gilbert achieved the third-best stroke average on the team at 77.72. She secured two top-20 finishes, including a season-best ninth-place finish at the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic. At this event, she posted a three-round total of 220, with individual rounds of 72, 78, and 70. She also placed 12th at the Canes and Cardinal Classic, where her three-round total was 231, with scores of 77, 79, and 75. Gilbert concluded her 2009-10 season ranked 31st in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) for stroke average.
Before her collegiate career, Gilbert was recognized as the fourth-ranked player in Tennessee by Junior Scoreboard. She made history in Tennessee High School golf by becoming the fifth girl to win the Class A/AA state championship in both her junior and senior years. As a senior, she also claimed the Region 3-A/AA championship. In the summer of 2009, Gilbert won the Chattanooga Women’s Amateur. She majored in sociology and comes from a family with a strong golf background; her father, Gibby Gilbert III, played on the Nationwide Tour, and her grandfather, Gibby Gilbert II, was a PGA Tour star.
