CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Citadel women soccer team from Charleston will open the Southern Conference tournament Friday, Nov. 6, as the No. 8 seed against No. 9 Western Carolina at top seed Samford in Birmingham, Ala., with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
The Bulldogs closed the regular season 8-6-4 overall and 3-5-2 in league play. They ended level with Mercer in the standings but landed eighth on the conference tiebreaker.
There is reason for confidence. The Citadel beat the Catamounts 4-1 on Oct. 11 in Cullowhee, N.C. A win Friday sends the Bulldogs to a Sunday, Nov. 8, quarterfinal against Samford at 2 p.m., and the title match is set for Nov. 15.
Two forwards carry the attack. Jasiah Pack leads the conference with 11 goals, and Samantha Grantham sits second with 10 and owns a team-high three game-winners. Through 17 matches the team had scored 36 goals and allowed 22, with Zoe Santos making 89 saves in goal.
