CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Citadel women’s soccer team plays its last home match of the regular season Friday at 3 p.m., taking on first-place Samford at Washington Light Infantry Field on the campus in Charleston, S.C.
The Bulldogs edged Wofford by a goal last weekend, 3-2, and carry an 8-4-4 record, with a 3-3-2 mark against league foes. They have been strong at home, going 6-2-1 at WLI Field, and they have done most of their damage late, with 25 of their 36 goals coming after halftime.
Samford arrives at 8-2-5 and 5-0-2 in league play, sharing first place with Furman. The visitors have not lost in four straight matches and blanked Tennessee Tech 2-0 last weekend.
History favors Samford. The Birmingham school holds a 20-2-1 edge in 23 meetings and has won the last four, all shutouts, including a 5-0 result last season. Its junior keeper tops the conference in shutouts and save rate and has the lowest goals-against mark in the league.
