NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. — A person riding a bicycle was hurt early Tuesday when a car struck them on Rivers Avenue, forcing North Charleston police to shut down every eastbound lane on one of the area’s busiest corridors during the morning commute.
The North Charleston Police Department said the collision happened shortly before 5:30 a.m. on Oct. 20. The injured rider was taken to a hospital, and police had not released details on the person’s condition.
While officers worked the scene, drivers heading east were sent onto Aviation Avenue, and police urged motorists to stay away from the area and expect delays.
All eastbound lanes were later reopened. Police did not say what led to the crash or whether the driver would face any charges.
