MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. — Three Republican state House members from the Mount Pleasant area held on to their seats Tuesday, although two of them spent the early part of the night behind their Democratic challengers.
In District 110, which stretches from the lower Charleston peninsula through parts of James Island and Mount Pleasant, Rep. Tom Hartnett finished with 51.6% to 48.4% for Democrat KJ Atwood. Atwood led until shortly after 10 p.m., when Hartnett moved ahead.
Rep. Joe Bustos overcame an early deficit in District 112, which covers Isle of Palms, Sullivan’s Island, part of Mount Pleasant and reaches toward Awendaw. He finished with 53.1% to 46.8% for first-time Democrat Jenna Arsenault. Bustos won a three-way Republican primary in June and beat a Democrat in 2024 to keep the seat.
In District 80, Rep. Kathy Landing, a former Mount Pleasant Town Council member, took 57% against firefighter Benjamin Brown.
South Carolina House members serve two-year terms with no term limits. All results remain unofficial until the state certifies them.
