The College of Charleston is hosting its annual Weeks of Welcome (WoW) from August 15 through September 27, 2026, offering a variety of events designed to help students connect with the campus and the broader Charleston community. The series aims to foster a sense of belonging and involvement among all students, not just newcomers.
WoW activities encompass a wide range of interests, including dog therapy, mobile meditation, group workouts, pickup sports, and tournaments for games like Mario Kart and chess. Among the highlighted events is a Food Truck & Live Music night on August 24, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Center for Intentionality. This event, sponsored by the Center for Intentionality, features the Just Friends band and a food truck, providing an opportunity for students to build relationships. Registration is available through Heylo.
BEst Fest is scheduled for September 2 in Cistern Yard, with sessions from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. This event, sponsored by the Center for Sustainable Development, connects students with campus organizations, volunteer opportunities, and wellness resources. It includes games, food, and an involvement fair, with a night market during the evening session.
On September 4, Randolph Hall will host Mocktails and Dancing from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Students can learn the South Carolina state dance, the Shag, which originated in African American communities along the state’s coast in the 1930s. The event, sponsored by the Office of Student Wellness and Well-being, the Center for Intentionality, and the Ballroom Dance Club, will offer free snacks, mocktails, and live music.
A Habitat for Humanity Build Day is planned for September 12, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., organized by the Center for Civic Engagement. This event provides an opportunity for students to assist in building a home for a local family, with lunch and transportation provided. No prior experience is necessary, but registration is required by September 10. Slots are limited, and registration can be completed through the Charleston Habitat website using a specific passcode.
The Hispanic Latino Club will host its annual Multicultural Festival on September 17, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., in Cistern Yard, to kick off Hispanic Heritage Month. This festival, sponsored by the Hispanic Latino Club, will feature music, food, games, and prizes, and will allow students to connect with various multicultural and intersectional organizations on campus and in the community.
Career Fair Week begins with the third annual Careers Cookout Tailgate on September 21, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., on Rivers Green. This event, sponsored by the Career Center, offers free food and a chance to meet employers in a relaxed setting. Two days later, on September 23, the Career Exploration and Grad School Fair will take place at the Charleston Gaillard Center from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. This fair, also sponsored by the Career Center, allows students to connect with companies across various industries and meet representatives from graduate school programs nationwide.
