CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Citadel women’s soccer team piled up a three-goal cushion before halftime Sunday and then hung on to beat Wofford 3-2 in a Southern Conference match at WLI Field in Charleston.
Reagan Wise put the Bulldogs ahead in the third minute, her second goal this season, on a feed from Samantha Grantham. Grantham then scored herself in the 28th minute for her 10th of the year, and Jasiah Pack, the top scorer in the league, made it 3-0 six minutes later with her 11th.
Caelynn January set up both the Grantham and Pack goals for a two-assist afternoon.
Wofford answered after the break. Julia Grier scored with help from Brooke Moody, and Betty Dovy later cut the gap to one off a pass from Mary Liese Grier, but the Terriers could not find an equalizer.
Goalkeeper Zoe Santos kept the Bulldogs in front with eight saves, including a full-stretch dive in the first half that protected the 3-0 margin. The victory lifted The Citadel to 8-4-4 overall and 3-3-2 in conference play, with six wins at home this fall.
