NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. — Fresh depth in goal is coming to the South Carolina Stingrays, who signed 27-year-old goaltender Ryan Kenny as the North Charleston hockey club gets its season rolling, the team announced Friday.
Kenny comes from the SPHL, where he has played most of the past four years with the Fayetteville Marksmen. Over that stretch he put up a 49-29-15 record, a goals-against mark of 2.56 and a save rate of .922. He started once for Fayetteville this fall, stopping 16 of 19 shots on Oct. 17.
The Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native is not new to the Stingrays. He made one start for South Carolina on Dec. 29, 2024, and has also suited up in the ECHL for Reading, Atlanta and Indy. As an SPHL rookie in 2023-24 he led that league with a .929 save percentage and made its All-Rookie Team.
He joins a team that swept its opening weekend for the second year in a row, winning 5-1 at Jacksonville and then edging Greenville 4-3 in overtime on home ice. Tyler Kopff scored twice that weekend, including the overtime winner.
The Stingrays, the ECHL affiliate of the Washington Capitals, are next home at the North Charleston Coliseum on Friday, Oct. 30, when Savannah visits for a 7:05 p.m. faceoff.
