Charleston, S.C. — The Ronald McDonald House in downtown Charleston is preparing a major expansion that will double its capacity, and the nonprofit has rolled out a new look to go with it.

The house currently has 32 bedrooms, including 10 designated for children undergoing transplants and their families. The expansion will add 34 bedrooms, bringing the total to 66.

Officials said the added space will let the organization avoid turning away sick children and keep families from having to sleep in their cars or in hotels while a child is in the hospital nearby.

The project is funded in part by the Expanding Hope campaign, which lets donors name rooms in honor of loved ones or companies. The nonprofit said it plans to double its footprint and open a 34-bedroom expansion next year.

Ronald McDonald House Charleston also unveiled a refreshed brand identity, including an updated logo and the new tagline Family Stays, in a social media announcement. The organization said its core mission remains unchanged.

The house serves families with hospitalized children who need a place to stay close to medical care in downtown Charleston.
