NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. — A Hanahan woman is charged after a fatal hit-and-run on Rivers Avenue in North Charleston, S.C., police said.
Brittany Martrice Raye, 32, faces a charge of leaving the scene of a collision involving death. North Charleston police Traffic Unit and patrol officers responded about 9:20 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5, to the 6300 block of Rivers Avenue after reports that a person had been struck by a vehicle. Firefighters were already treating the victim when officers arrived.
Witnesses told officers they heard a loud thud and then saw a dark blue sedan speeding away, according to police. The victim was taken to a hospital and later pronounced dead. The Charleston County Coroner’s Office is assisting with the investigation.
Investigators identified a possible suspect and traced the vehicle to an apartment complex in Hanahan. Officers located Raye and the vehicle believed to be involved. She was booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center.
Police have not publicly released the victim’s name. The case remains under investigation by the North Charleston Police Department.
