The New York-based burger chain famed for its crinkle-cut fries has locked in its Palmetto State debut. The first Shake Shack location in South Carolina will open its doors in North Charleston on Tuesday, Sept. 23, with a ribbon-cutting slated for 9:30 a.m. and general admission at 10 a.m.
The new restaurant sits at 4840 Tanger Outlet Blvd., Suite 791, on the campus of Tanger Outlets Charleston. Its footprint runs about 3,500 square feet, and daily hours are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.
North Charleston’s mayor is expected to take part in the morning ribbon-cutting. The launch is free and open to the public. Early arrivals will find gift-card giveaways and South-Carolina-themed tumbler cups distributed while supplies last.
The suite sits near Abercrombie & Fitch inside the outlet complex, positioning the new burger stand next to a heavy-traffic apparel anchor. Tanger Outlets Charleston has been a fixture of the city’s I-26 shopping corridor for years and has expanded its dining lineup as fast-casual chains push into off-mall footprints across the region.
The menu centers on Angus beef burgers cooked to order, along with crinkle-cut fries, chicken sandwiches, hand-spun milkshakes and house-made lemonades. The Tanger location marks the brand’s first Palmetto State address after years of Southeast growth that had bypassed South Carolina in favor of neighboring markets. Details on possible follow-on locations in the state were not part of the Sept. 23 announcement.
