Richland County home-invasion suspect jailed in Charleston County

Charleston Police Department officers helped Richland County deputies and the U.S. Marshals arrest a 27-year-old man on Sept. 2 who is now accused of driving a violent summer crime spree in the Midlands, and he is being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center on separate Charleston County charges.

Shaheim Tywuan Jackson was booked into Al Cannon at 3:41 p.m. on Sept. 2, according to Charleston County jail records, on 14 counts filed by Charleston City police. Deputies in the Midlands have been investigating a pair of daytime home invasions since mid-August. On Aug. 13, a break-in was reported on Warner Drive in which residents said intruders forced their way inside, fatally shot the household dog and fled. On Aug. 25, deputies were called to Melstone Drive after multiple reports of gunfire; investigators there said the homeowner and the intruders exchanged shots before the suspects escaped.

Jackson is expected to face additional charges tied to the Warner Drive and Melstone Drive cases once his Charleston County matters are resolved. The Richland County warrants list attempted murder, first-degree burglary, kidnapping and weapons offenses.

Officials said the multi-agency operation that led to the arrest was coordinated in the Charleston area, where investigators had located Jackson at the time the warrants were served.
