CHARLESTON, S.C. — Several Charleston-area girls volleyball programs now know their paths through the South Carolina High School League state playoffs, which begin Oct. 21.
James Island is the No. 8 seed and will host No. 9 Spring Valley in the opening round. The team that advances draws top-seeded Gray Collegiate next.
Two higher seeds wait for their opponents. No. 4 West Ashley will take on the Cane Bay and Ashley Ridge winner, and No. 2 Wando will play whichever team advances from Carolina Forest against Fort Dorchester.
In a separate bracket, top-seeded Lucy Beckham will meet the team that comes out of the Hilton Head Island match at Myrtle Beach.
Every class will crown its girls champion at Dreher High School in Columbia, with title matches on Nov. 5 and 7. Boys volleyball playoffs begin Oct. 20, and the boys finals are Oct. 31 at Lexington High School.
