CHARLESTON, S.C. — Charleston Southern University women soccer coach Dr. Jose Gomez said Wednesday he will leave the sideline after the 2026 season and shift into an athletics office job at the school.
Gomez will move into an associate athletic director post focused on advancement and fundraising once the season wraps. The university has opened a nationwide search for the next head coach.
He took over the Buccaneers in December 2019 as the program third head coach. In seven seasons he has 37 wins and 18 all-conference players, with a best year in 2023 when CSU went 9-5-4 and earned a No. 4 seed in the Big South tournament. The Bucs reached that conference tournament in 2021, 2023 and 2025 under him.
Before Charleston Southern, Gomez spent 2013-19 as associate head coach for Liberty men soccer and earlier led Palm Beach Atlantic men, including a 2010 national title. He also played professionally for the Charlotte Eagles and Virginia Beach Mariners after starring at Liberty.
Charleston Southern University is a Baptist-affiliated campus of about 3,500 students in the Charleston area and fields Big South athletics as the Buccaneers.
