Three suspects were arrested in North Charleston on July 5 in connection with two separate robbery incidents that took place on the same day. The suspects, identified as Amari Washington, 19, and 18-year-olds Nizhier Baldwin and Zanquel Baldwin, face multiple charges related to armed robbery and attempted robbery.

Amari Washington has been charged with:

  • Two counts of possession of a weapon during a violent crime
  • One count of armed robbery with a deadly weapon
  • One count of attempted armed robbery

Nizhier Baldwin is facing charges for:

  • Armed robbery with a deadly weapon
  • Attempted armed robbery

Zanquel Baldwin has been charged with:

  • Attempted armed robbery

Law enforcement officials reported that the incidents began around 2:45 p.m. when officers responded to a report of an attempted armed robbery on Sumner Avenue. The first victim indicated that he was approached by two male suspects who requested change. After engaging the victim in conversation, the suspects brandished a firearm and demanded he drive them to an ATM. The victim complied, taking them to the Food Lion on Remount Road, where they circled the parking lot before the suspects fled on foot.

Approximately 30 minutes later, a second victim was targeted on Sumner Avenue. This individual reported being robbed at gunpoint and knifepoint by the same suspects. In that event, the second victim surrendered all the cash he had to the armed suspects.

Following their arrests, all three suspects were processed and booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center. Amari Washington has a bond set at $100,000, while Nizhier Baldwin’s bond is $30,000. Zanquel Baldwin, on the other hand, has been released after posting a $40,000 bond.

In light of these incidents, the North Charleston Police Department is urging any victims of robbery in the Remount Road or Charleston Farms areas who have not reported their cases to come forward. The police are keen to gather more information that may assist in ongoing investigations.

This arrest highlights a larger concern for community safety as authorities continue to combat violent crimes in the area. The police department remains committed to ensuring the safety of North Charleston residents by investigating these incidents thoroughly and encouraging community cooperation in reporting any suspicious activities.

As law enforcement works to address these alarming trends in crime, officials are reminded of the importance of public vigilance and community engagement in preventing future incidents. Maintaining open lines of communication with local authorities helps build a stronger, safer neighborhood for all.
