News Summary
A 17-year-old has been arrested for attempted murder and weapon possession linked to two shootings in Charleston. The police found the suspect after the first shooting near Rutledge Avenue. This arrest follows a June incident where two females were injured. Investigations continue as community safety remains a concern amidst the ongoing developments.
Charleston – A 17-year-old was arrested on July 3 in connection with two separate shootings in Charleston. The juvenile suspect faces charges of attempted murder and two counts of weapon possession. Due to the suspect’s age, their identity has not been disclosed.
Law enforcement officials responded to a shooting that occurred just before 10 p.m. at the intersection of Rutledge Avenue and Peachtree Street. One of the shooting victims sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the arm. Authorities located the alleged shooter hiding beneath a nearby porch shortly after the incident. Initial investigations suggest that the suspect and the victim were acquainted with one another.
This recent arrest is not an isolated incident; the juvenile has also been charged for a shooting on June 14, which took place less than half a mile from the July 3 event. During the June shooting, two juvenile females were injured. One victim, an 18-year-old female, suffered gunshot wounds to both legs. Witnesses reported that multiple individuals fled the scene shortly after the shots were fired. An officer provided immediate aid to the injured victim using tourniquets, and she later identified the shooter as “Elijah.”
Authorities identified the shooter from the June incident as 18-year-old Elijah Dolcine, a resident of North Charleston. Dolcine was apprehended shortly thereafter while walking in a nearby driveway. A black Glock handgun was recovered approximately 10 feet away from where he was found. It is worth noting that officers had seen Dolcine brandishing a Glock during previous encounters.
Dolcine was charged with two counts of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, as well as one count of weapons possession during a violent crime. After being issued a $65,000 surety bond, he was released from custody on June 17. Following Dolcine’s arrest, 21-year-old Joshua Allen Young was also taken into custody on June 20 in relation to the June 14 shooting. Investigations revealed that Young had ties to the injured juvenile females.
The June 14 shooting escalated to gunfire following an attempted robbery. A search warrant executed at Young’s residence uncovered both marijuana and a firearm. Young now faces charges including criminal conspiracy, possession of marijuana, and two counts of weapons possession.
Details concerning the initial shooting warrants revealed that the juvenile suspect arrested on July 3 was implicated in the June 14 shooting as well. The suspect was charged with armed robbery, first-degree assault and battery, and additional weapons possession charges concerning the earlier incident. Currently, there is no indication of any additional suspects being sought in this case.
In a related note, Tropical Depression Three formed off the southeast U.S. coast on July 4, 2025, around 150 miles south-southeast of Charleston, moving northward at a slow pace of 2 mph. The system currently has sustained winds of 35 mph and is anticipated to strengthen into Tropical Storm Chantal by July 5.
A tropical storm watch has been issued from Edisto Beach to Little River Inlet in South Carolina, with anticipated rainfalls of 2 to 4 inches and isolated totals reaching up to 6 inches in the Carolinas. The region also faces an increased risk of minor coastal flooding and storm surges of 1 to 2 feet. The storm is expected to generate rough surf and rip currents along the southeastern coast. By Tuesday, the Southeast is likely to dry out, while the rest of the country is forecasting ideal conditions for the Fourth of July weekend.
This unfolding scenario reflects ongoing public safety concerns in Charleston, amidst the natural challenges posed by the developing weather system.
