Charleston, South Carolina – Lawsuit Filed Against Men Identified in Nancy Mace’s February Speech Alleging Sexual Assault

A lawsuit has been filed by a woman identified as “Jane Doe” against three men named by U.S. Representative Nancy Mace during a February House speech. The defendants include Patrick Bryant, Mace’s former fiancé, along with John Osborne and Eric Bowman. The lawsuit alleges multiple serious crimes, including wrongful intrusion into private affairs, battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and conspiracy, among others.

The filing accuses the three men of recording and storing footage of a sexual assault without the victim’s consent for over five years. Attorney Marybeth Mullaney, representing the plaintiff, has stated that the lawsuit aims to empower women and seeks to change the narrative surrounding the reporting of assault cases. Mace discovered the victim’s story after viewing photos and video footage that motivated her speech in February. After speaking with the victim on April 6, Mace described the conversation as one of the most difficult she had ever experienced, noting that the victim was unconscious during the assault and unaware of the incident until it was discussed with her.

In her February speech, Mace alleged that the men conspired to commit rape and nonconsensually recorded exploitative photos of women and minors. Following Mace’s remarks, Bryant claimed the lawsuit was merely a media stunt intended to undermine him and advance Mace’s political agenda. While Bryant has publicly denied the allegations, the other men named in the lawsuit, Osborne and Bowman, have yet to respond. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is currently investigating Bryant, though no updates regarding the inquiry’s status have been provided.

In a related context, Mace previously filed a defamation lawsuit against Bowman concerning false accusations made about her. Additionally, in a separate legal case, Delmar Maximiliano Perez-Ramirez has been sentenced to 20 years for second-degree criminal sexual conduct in North Charleston. Prosecutors detailed that the victim suffered severe injuries during the assault, which took place while Perez-Ramirez was living in the country illegally.

Another significant case in the Charleston area involves Teresa Carr, the general manager of Sultan’s Restaurant & Lounge, who has filed a lawsuit alleging verbal and physical abuse from both her employer and an employee following her efforts to improve workplace conditions. Carr’s claims illustrate the broader problem of systemic abuse within the Charleston hospitality industry.

The ongoing developments in these legal matters highlight a growing awareness and urgency surrounding issues of sexual assault and workplace harassment in the community. Mace’s advocacy and the actions taken by affected individuals indicate a movement towards seeking justice and accountability for those who suffer such injustices.
