The annual Piccolo Spoleto Outdoor Art Exhibition kicked off over the weekend in Marion Square, showcasing an array of art, music, and storytelling. The event is set to continue until June 8, attracting hundreds of visitors to the vibrant open-air gallery.

Participants can enjoy a diverse collection of artistic works while engaging in various performances and activities around the square. Across the street at Wragg Square, a smaller pop-up event featured artists, performers, and vendors, creating a lively atmosphere for locals and tourists alike. The exhibition transforms local parks into venues of artistic expression and community gathering, further enhancing the cultural appreciation in Charleston.

As part of the Spoleto Festival USA, which encompasses the Piccolo Spoleto events, Charleston has become a focal point for arts and culture from May 23 to June 8. The festival includes an impressive lineup of 11 programs and 33 performances in its Chamber Music Series, drawing artists and audiences from around the globe.

Opening Events and Activities

The festival commenced with an opening gala held at the Hotel Bennett on May 22, featuring tickets that started at a premium price of $750 per person. The opening ceremony for Piccolo Spoleto occurred outside of City Hall at noon on May 23, marking the official start of the festivities.

A prominent highlight of the weekend was the Sunset Serenade, which showcased the musical talents of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra on the steps of the U.S. Customs House, providing a free concert for attendees.

Additional Events and Highlights

Several other events were hosted around Charleston during the festival. On May 24, Surfrider Charleston organized a celebration of coastal conservation victories that featured live music and a silent auction aimed at benefiting ocean protection. Moreover, the Maybee Fest, an adults-only music festival, entertained attendees with local indie bands at the Woodlands Nature Reserve over the holiday weekend.

Another event, the Blue on the River Music Fest, took place on May 25 at Riverfront Park, offering hip-hop performances and an opportunity for attendees to showcase themed attire. Tickets for this festival were available at a general admission price of $44.
