North Charleston Police Make Multiple Arrests in Connection with Recent Shootings
North Charleston police have arrested several individuals following a series of recent shooting incidents that have heightened community concerns regarding safety. Among those apprehended is Desmond Leondreae Davis, aged 35, who faces multiple firearm-related charges.
The shooting incident involving Davis occurred around 5:24 a.m. on Sunday at the Greenridge Apartments located on Crossroads Drive. Witnesses reported seeing a man dressed in all black firing shots after emerging from a Grand Marquis vehicle. When officers arrived, they encountered Davis, who displayed aggressive behavior and demanded that they step away from his vehicle. A subsequent investigation revealed that Davis is the registered owner of the Grand Marquis.
Upon approaching Davis, police recovered a handgun and spent shell casings from the apartment unit he exited. Davis is currently being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center on a range of charges, including possession of a firearm by a convicted violent felon and discharging a firearm.
The recent string of violence in North Charleston includes an earlier shooting at the Aqua Lounge nightclub on June 10, which left two people injured. In connection with this shooting, the nightclub owner, Lorezno Johnson, has surrendered to charges of obstruction of justice and was released on a personal recognizance bond the same day. Residents have raised serious safety concerns about the nightclub’s operations, particularly as it is located just 400 feet from residential homes, which may violate city ordinances.
Community members have voiced their frustrations in public hearings, actively seeking solutions to address safety issues and potential regulatory violations surrounding the nightclub. Newly elected city council members may play a role in addressing these community concerns.
Meanwhile, the police are continuing their investigation into the shooting incident at Aqua Lounge and are currently searching for the gunman involved in that case.
In additional arrests, Teamoni Tameka Malloy, aged 25, was taken into custody for attempted murder and possession of a weapon related to a shooting during Memorial Day weekend. Malloy allegedly went to an apartment complex with the intent to physically assault a known victim. She was booked at the Al Cannon Detention Center on Wednesday.
Furthermore, Davontay Pryor, aged 31, was arrested in connection with another shooting at Greentree North Apartments, which resulted in a 17-year-old being hospitalized. Pryor faces serious charges, including attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. SWAT team members found Pryor hiding inside an apartment, and he is currently awaiting a bond hearing at the detention center.
The recent incidents underline the urgent need for community engagement and effective policing strategies to enhance safety in North Charleston. As investigations continue, residents and officials hope to see improved regulations regarding public spaces and heightened security measures to prevent further violence.
