North Charleston – Two convicted felons were arrested on multiple drug and gun charges in separate incidents over the weekend, highlighting ongoing issues with illegal substances and firearms in the area.

In the first incident, 44-year-old Prince Brown, a resident of Charleston County, was apprehended on July 1 after being stopped by a North Charleston police officer for a window tint violation. Upon exiting his vehicle, Brown dropped pills he claimed were Adderall from an unmarked prescription bottle. A subsequent search by a K-9 unit resulted in the discovery of over 470 grams of marijuana and a pistol within the vehicle.

Brown faced several charges including:

  • Possession with intent to distribute marijuana
  • Possession with intent to distribute a Schedule II controlled substance
  • Unlawful possession of a firearm by a person previously convicted of a violent offense
  • Unlawful possession of a firearm by a person previously convicted of a drug trafficking offense

As a previously convicted felon, Brown is prohibited from carrying a firearm. Following his arrest, he was taken to the Al Cannon Detention Center.

In a separate incident on Friday night, 45-year-old Devon Simmons was arrested after running a red light and subsequently pulled over near I-26. Officers discovered various illegal substances during a vehicle search, including a bag of marijuana, a bag of white powder that tested positive for cocaine, pills believed to be Ecstasy, and a stolen handgun.

Simmons is currently held at the Al Cannon Detention Center as well.

The situation escalated with the arrest of 43-year-old Jonathan Simmons, who was charged in connection with a search warrant execution at the Suburban Extended Stay on Dorchester Road. During this search, law enforcement recovered a significant amount of narcotics, including field-tested cocaine, methamphetamine, fentanyl, crack cocaine, and a variety of multi-colored pills along with marijuana. Additionally, authorities confiscated two firearms: an AR 15-style pistol without a serial number and a Glock 42 that had been reported stolen from the jurisdiction of the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office.

Jonathan Simmons faces serious charges that include:

  • Trafficking methamphetamine
  • Trafficking fentanyl
  • Trafficking cocaine
  • Possession with intent to distribute marijuana
  • Six counts of possession of a weapon during a violent crime
  • Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon

Simmons was identified through personal items, including a wallet containing his driver’s license and social security card found in the room he was occupying. This arrest marks a continuation of Jonathan Simmons’ criminal history, which includes four prior arrests related to drug offenses since 2017. He was promptly booked at the Al Cannon Detention Center following his latest encounter with law enforcement.
