News Summary

A 25-year-old woman was assaulted while jogging in North Charleston, provoking community alarm. The assailant remains unidentified, prompting increased patrols as the police seek information from the public. The incident highlights ongoing safety issues for joggers in the area.

North Charleston – A 25-year-old woman was assaulted while jogging on the evening of May 28, 2025, leading to an ongoing search for the suspect, who remains unidentified. The incident took place around 8:30 p.m. along Ingleside Boulevard, raising safety concerns within the community.

The woman’s roommates grew alarmed when she did not return home at her customary time. Concerned for her safety, they drove along her usual jogging route and encountered her running from a nearby construction site. When found, the victim was bloodied and covered in grass clippings, approximately 100 yards from where the attack occurred.

The victim reported to the North Charleston Police Department (NCPD) that she had been tackled from behind by an unknown male assailant. The attacker covered her mouth to muffle her screams; however, she continued to cry out during the assault. According to her account, the assailant attempted to grope her but ultimately fled the scene on foot without completing the act.

Police responded to the report at around 9:49 p.m. after being alerted by the victim’s roommates, who initially returned the woman to their home before contacting authorities. The responding officers faced challenges in determining the exact crime scene, as they could not find clear signs of a struggle. Consequently, they positioned officers outside the victim’s residence for added safety.

As of 10 a.m. on May 30, there have been no arrests made related to the incident. The NCPD is actively enhancing patrols in the Ingleside Boulevard area, particularly near the construction site close to Norwalk Drive, in response to the assault and to reassure local residents.

The incident report indicates that the victim was wearing headphones during her jog, which may have affected her awareness of the surroundings at the time of the attack. This detail adds to the growing safety concerns for joggers in the area, highlighting the potential risks posed by isolation and reduced alertness while exercising.

In light of this incident, community leaders are urging joggers to remain vigilant while running alone, particularly in less populated or poorly lit areas. The NCPD encourages residents to report any suspicious activity and stay alert to ensure personal safety while exercising outdoors.

The brutal nature of this attack has sent shockwaves through North Charleston, prompting local authorities to consider additional safety measures in public spaces, especially those frequented by joggers and runners. The community is now looking for steps that can be taken to prevent such incidents in the future and ensure the well-being of residents.

As authorities continue to investigate the assault, they are appealing to the public for any information that could assist in identifying the suspect. Residents are reminded that their safety is a shared responsibility, and by staying observant and reporting shifts in the community, they can contribute to a safer environment for all.
