Children participate in the Hearts in Our Hands initiative, creating cheerful cards for elderly residents.
Mount Pleasant introduces the ‘Hearts in Our Hands: Kindness Kard Kits’ initiative aimed at fostering connections between children and seniors in the community. Sponsored by Be Kind Charleston and supported by GSSA Foundation, this program engages young volunteers to craft uplifting cards for nursing home residents, enhancing community compassion. Each kit includes materials for creating a minimum of 20 cards, which promote joy and empathy, reminding seniors they are valued. The initiative encourages broad participation while sharing progress online.
Mount Pleasant has unveiled a new initiative called Hearts in Our Hands: Mount Pleasant Kindness Kard Kits, aimed at fostering community connection and compassion among its families and children. Launched by Be Kind Charleston, this program is designed to encourage young volunteers to create uplifting cards for local nursing home residents.
The initiative has been made possible through a grant from the God’s Secret Service Agents (GSSA) Foundation and operates under the fiscal sponsorship of CharlestonGood.com. Each Kindness Kard Kit is distributed free of charge to participants, enhancing accessibility and encouraging wide community involvement.
Each Kindness Kard Kit contains essential materials for crafting cards, including blank cards, envelopes, gel pens, and colored pencils. Volunteers are required to produce a minimum of 20 uplifting cards, which will later be hand-delivered to nursing home residents throughout Mount Pleasant.
Once volunteers complete their cards, they must return them to designated drop-off locations established by the initiative. Upon return, the cards will be carefully reviewed, bundled, and subsequently distributed to seniors living in nursing homes. This process not only ensures quality but also emphasizes the spirit of connection that the initiative strives to promote.
The overarching goal of the Hearts in Our Hands initiative is to remind seniors that they are seen and valued within the community. By reacting positively to the creativity and compassion of young volunteers, the program seeks to spread joy and cultivate empathy, establishing deeper community ties between generations.
In addition to the heartfelt card-making, participants are encouraged to share their creations, offering an opportunity for them to be featured on the Be Kind Charleston website. This aspect of the initiative aims to highlight the volunteers’ artistic efforts and the joy of giving.
The public is invited to follow the progress and journey of the Hearts in Our Hands initiative by subscribing for updates at bekindcharleston.org. This connection encourages community involvement and allows residents to engage more intimately with the initiative.
For any media inquiries regarding the Hearts in Our Hands project or to learn more about participating, community members can reach out via email at hello@bekindcharleston.org. The initiative is actively using social media to promote participation and sharing, with hashtags like #BeKindCharleston, #KindnessKardKits, and #MountPleasantNews circulating among participants.
Through the Hearts in Our Hands initiative, Be Kind Charleston is creating an avenue for meaningful community connection and uplifting interactions between the younger and older generations. By reaching out to nursing home residents with kindness and love, this initiative stands to make a substantial impact on the lives of those who may feel isolated or forgotten.
