The South Carolina Outcast Angling Club, owned by Dillon, recently clinched victory at the season-opening Fort Lauderdale Billfish Open, further building excitement around the upcoming competition.

The HUK Charleston Billfish Cup offers local boats the chance to participate with entry fees beginning at $5,000, and an all-in buy-in costing $35,000. The tournament boasts a shared purse of $180,000, attracting competitive anglers aiming for significant payouts. Registration for the event remains open until the captain’s meeting occurs on June 4. Daily weigh-ins are scheduled to take place from 4-8 p.m. on June 4, 5, and 6 at Saltwater Cowboys, providing an opportunity for the public to witness the excitement.

Providing extensive coverage, ESPN+ will broadcast six hours of live footage from the tournament, allowing fans and participants alike to engage with the action as it unfolds. The competition promises to be fierce, with multiple categories set to challenge even the most seasoned anglers.

Following closely after the Billfish Cup, the HUK Charleston Cobia Cup will take place June 5-7 at the same venue, with its own captain’s meeting on June 5. In this tournament, participants can compete for cobia, enforcing a legal length of 38 inches—2 inches longer than the legal requirement set by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. This stringent measure emphasizes commitment to sustainable fishing practices.

Part of the proceeds from the HUK Cup will support local cobia conservation initiatives at the Waddell Mariculture Center, underlining the importance of responsible fishing in the region. The Cobia Cup guarantees another exciting weekend, ready for anglers who eagerness to test their skills against rival teams.

Recent Fishing Tournament Highlights

Earlier in the season, the Georgetown Blue Marlin Tournament celebrated its 57th annual event, where participants collectively released 20 blue marlin and 62 sailfish. The standout performance came from the boat Claytime, owned by Jon Clay, which achieved 2,400 points by releasing two blue marlin and six sailfish. Additional accolades were awarded for the heaviest catches, including a 56.5-pound wahoo for the aggregate meatfish division, a 35.5-pound dolphin, and a 28-pound tuna. Notable performances included Ashley Sims, who earned recognition as the top lady angler, and Julia Gressette, who claimed the title of top junior angler.

Beyond the Billfish and Cobia Cups, the Charleston Coastal Anglers will also host their annual fishing tournament on July 12, with registration set for July 10. Eligible species for this tournament encompass various fish, including king mackerel, Spanish mackerel, trout, and more, offering a variety of fishing opportunities for participants. Prizes for the Charleston Coastal tournament include cash rewards as well as fishing equipment, creating an engaging and competitive atmosphere.
