CHARLESTON, SC – Great Clips has launched its 9th annual fundraiser, titled “Help Great Clips Cut out Sarcoma Cancers,” aimed at supporting research for sarcoma cancers. The initiative runs from now until June 13, 2025, allowing customers at participating Great Clips salons to donate any amount to help advance research and clinical trials at the Hollings Cancer Center, part of the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC).
As a token of gratitude, each donor will receive a $3 coupon for their next haircut, adding an incentive to contribute to a cause that has already raised more than $60,000 in prior years. This fundraiser is also aligned with the upcoming Swing for a Cure Golf Tournament, where Great Clips proudly serves as a title sponsor.
In memory of her husband, Roger Allen, local franchisee Karen Allen initiated the fundraiser following Roger’s battle with spindle cell sarcoma, a rare form of cancer affecting connective tissues. His diagnosis in November 2011 revealed a 10-pound tumor, which led to extensive treatment at MUSC. The medical team crafted a specialized treatment plan, helping Roger gain recognition as the “Miracle Man” after he made remarkable recoveries post-surgery.
Despite facing a relapse in 2013 that resulted in multiple surgeries, radiation, and chemotherapy over the next three years, Roger’s determination shone through until his passing in 2015. Karen Allen advocates for the impeccable care offered by MUSC Hollings Cancer Center, emphasizing the importance of continued support for sarcoma research.
