Two women have been charged in connection with the tragic death of a 2-year-old child due to severe burns, according to authorities in Florence County, South Carolina. Ky’Ledja Janissa Holloway, 20, and Traquianna Holloway-Wilson, 29, face serious legal consequences following an incident that led to the child’s demise earlier in January.

The incident took place at a residence on Bair Court in Florence, where Holloway is accused of intentionally pouring hot liquid on the child’s legs, causing second-degree burns on the child’s knees and lower legs. At the time, Holloway was responsible for the child’s care. Tragically, the child died two days later from an infection related to the untreated burns.

In the aftermath of the incident, Holloway has been charged with inflicting great bodily injury upon a child, while Holloway-Wilson is charged with unlawfully placing a child at risk. Both women were implicated in the child’s neglect, as Holloway-Wilson failed to seek medical treatment for the child despite being aware of the severe burns.

Holloway was arrested on May 6, while Holloway-Wilson has also been charged in connection with the neglect. Prior to these arrests, Patricia Stafford, 60, was arrested in April for unlawful neglect of a child, which links her to the same case involving the child’s death. Stafford, Holloway-Wilson, and Holloway were all involved in caring for the child, leading investigators to question the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

Following their arrests, both Holloway-Wilson and Stafford were released after posting bond. In contrast, Holloway remains in custody and is held without bond. The investigation is being conducted by the Florence Police Department, the Florence County Coroner’s Office, and the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED).

Authorities first discovered the deceased child in a bedroom after receiving reports from neighbors about a potential incident. The investigation has raised serious concerns regarding the safety and well-being of the child under the care of the accused. While the ongoing investigation continues, it remains unclear if further charges will be filed against others involved.

This devastating case sheds light on serious issues surrounding child welfare and the responsibilities of caregivers. The tragic loss of life has sparked an outcry for urgent measures to protect vulnerable children in similar situations. The prosecution is being handled by the 12th Circuit Solicitor’s Office, who will represent the state as this case unfolds in the legal system.

As the investigation progresses, officials may uncover more details regarding the events leading up to the child’s death. The community watches closely, hoping for justice and meaningful changes to prevent future tragedies.
