CHARLESTON – Authorities are investigating two distinct incidents involving a stabbing and a shooting that occurred over the weekend, raising concerns about public safety in the area.

In the first incident, Charleston Police responded to a stabbing at Fuel Cantina, a downtown restaurant, on Friday afternoon around 2:45 p.m. An altercation between coworkers led to one employee stabbing another. The suspect fled the scene before police arrived, and as of now, no arrests have been made. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The investigation into this incident is ongoing, with authorities working to gather more information.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident early Sunday morning in North Charleston, police are looking into a shooting involving an off-duty Mount Pleasant police officer. Officers were called to the scene near Patriot Boulevard around 2 a.m. where they found a man shot in the driver’s seat of a vehicle. The officer, seated in the passenger side, reported that a verbal dispute with her boyfriend escalated into a physical confrontation, which involved a firearm. The argument started when the officer began dancing with another woman. During the struggle for the gun, it discharged, resulting in the man’s injuries. He was subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment. The officer revealed that she had been in a relationship with the man since 2017 and that they had lived together. It has also been noted that there have been unreported instances of physical domestic incidents since 2020. In light of the incident, the Mount Pleasant Police Department has placed the officer on administrative leave pending further investigation.

Additionally, Charleston Police have arrested three individuals related to another shooting incident that occurred at the Palmilla Apartments in West Ashley. This shooting took place just before 1 a.m. on Sunday morning, when officers in the area heard gunfire. Upon arrival, they found three individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. All victims were rushed to a local hospital for urgent care. Unfortunately, one of the victims later succumbed to their injuries; however, their identity has not yet been disclosed. Preliminary investigations suggest that the shooting was the result of a fight within the apartment complex. Authorities have confirmed that there is currently no indication of an ongoing threat to the public, and this case remains an active investigation. Officials are urging anyone with information regarding the shooting to reach out to the Charleston Police Department.

This series of violent incidents within a short period has raised alarms in the community and has prompted police departments to ramp up their investigative efforts to ensure safety in the region. As investigations continue, law enforcement agencies are reminding the public to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity.

Charleston Police and North Charleston Police continue to work diligently on their respective investigations to bring clarity and resolution to these troubling events.
