Farewell to a Pillar of Education: Ivy Nolen Lutz
As the community revels in the joy of music, it’s also taking a moment to celebrate the life of Ivy Nolen Lutz, a beloved Charleston educator who passed away peacefully on December 28, 2024. This gentle soul, born in 1948 in Charleston, was the eldest of six siblings and a pride of the local educational community. Ivy dedicated more than 40 years to shaping young minds, teaching over 1,000 kindergarten and first-grade students at Lake Lucina Elementary.
Having graduated from Bishop England High School, Ivy then pursued higher education, obtaining her Master’s in Elementary Education from Sacred Heart College in Belmont, North Carolina. She was not just an educator, but a vibrant community member who actively participated in her church choir at First Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville, Florida, channeling her faith through both service and music.
A Celebration of Life
A celebration of Ivy’s life is set to take place on January 4, 2025, at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church. In honor of Ivy, attendees are encouraged to wear yellow or teal, reflecting her favorite color and the spirited essence of the Jacksonville Jaguars, a team she proudly cheered for. To celebrate her legacy, the family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Dementia Society of America or Alzheimer’s Association.
