A recent proposal in Charleston sought to permit golf carts on the Ashley River Road Bike Path; however, this idea is currently stalled due to opposition from city officials. Many residents, such as the Burkhart family, rely on golf carts for quick commutes to school, and the lack of access to the path poses challenges.

City officials are now considering amending regulations to potentially allow golf cart usage near Drayton Hall Elementary School while being careful not to open broader access to the bike path.
