Who Are the Candidates?

In this year’s pool of candidates, we have a mix of past stars who have left an indelible mark on the game. Let’s take a closer look at the competition:

  • Steve Arrington: A former pitcher who shined in the 1970s for Hanahan High School and the Citadel, he stands out as the Southern Conference baseball player of the year in 1973. What an accomplishment!
  • Mike Cisco: This former pitcher from Wando High School and the University of South Carolina had a solid six-year minor league career after being drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies. That’s some dedication!
  • Nick Ciuffo: Another Wando standout, Nick made a name for himself as a catcher for the Tampa Bay Rays after being drafted in the first round of the 2013 MLB draft. Talk about a great start!
  • Josh Hamilton: A name most baseball fans recognize, Josh is a five-time MLB All-Star who played for the Charleston RiverDogs early in his career. He’s also known for earning the American League MVP award in 2010!
  • Michael Kohn: This College of Charleston star made his MLB debut in 2010, where he showcased his skills as a talented two-way player. If that’s not versatile, we don’t know what is!
  • Chris McGuiness: Known for his times at James Island Charter High School and The Citadel, Chris made his MLB debut with the Texas Rangers in 2013. Another remarkable journey!
  • Tyler Thornburg: A player from Charleston Southern, Tyler had a nine-season career in the majors boasting a career 3.46 ERA. Talk about being consistent!
  • Asher Wojciechowski: A standout from The Citadel, Asher has pitched for multiple MLB teams and had a memorable season in his career before being drafted. His journey is a true inspiration!

How to Vote

Now here’s how you can get involved! The official voting ballots will be available at Riley Park starting April 15, and you can even vote online. You’ll be able to cast up to five votes, giving everyone a chance to support their favorite candidates. But mark your calendars—online voting will wrap up on May 10, so don’t miss out!

Mark Your Calendars for the Enshrinement Ceremony

After all the votes are counted, the enshrinement of the inductees will take place before the Charleston RiverDogs’ Father’s Day home game on June 15 at 5:05 p.m. What a perfect way to celebrate the day with family, friends, and the community!

Community Engagement

The Hall of Fame is coordinated by the Charleston RiverDogs and carries a mission to connect the local community to the rich history of baseball in our area. With the advisory committee made up of local volunteers, this initiative brings a whole new level of excitement to the event.

So Charleston, are you ready to show your support for our local baseball legends? Come out, cast your votes, and let’s make this year’s Class of 2025 a memorable one!
