DECATUR, Ga. — DeKalb County Fire Rescue crews raced to a reported explosion Thursday evening at a hotel on Snapfinger Woods Drive in unincorporated Decatur, where an exterior wall was damaged and several windows were blown out.

Dispatchers sent units about 6:09 p.m. to First Place Hotel, also listed as 1st Place Hotel and Property Management at 4300 Snapfinger Woods Drive. A department spokesperson said hotel staff had already put out the fire before firefighters arrived.

No one was hurt, DeKalb County Fire Rescue confirmed. Investigators stayed on scene to examine what caused the blast and to check whether the building remained structurally sound.

A companion account said the force of the reported explosion shattered windows and left visible damage along an exterior wall. Authorities had not released a repair-cost estimate by Thursday night, and the cause remained under investigation.

The hotel sits in the Snapfinger Woods corridor of DeKalb County, outside Atlanta city limits but inside the metro fire-response area. Officials asked the public to avoid the immediate block while investigators finished their work.

Neighbors along Snapfinger Woods Drive saw blown-out glass and a scarred wall after the evening call, according to the same agency accounts. Fire investigators remained responsible for determining whether the blast started inside a guest room, a mechanical space or another part of the property.

DeKalb County Fire Rescue has not identified any suspects or linked the explosion to a wider pattern of calls. For now the working description remains a reported explosion with property damage, no injuries and an open cause investigation at the hotel campus east of Atlanta.
