CHARLESTON, S.C. — Charleston residents who want a say in how the city spends its money next year get their chance Tuesday, when City Council holds a public hearing on the proposed 2027 city budget.

The council meets at 5 p.m. Oct. 27 at City Hall, 80 Broad St., and the meeting will also stream on the city’s YouTube channel. People can sign up to speak in person at City Hall right up to the 5 p.m. start.

Anyone hoping to speak remotely by Zoom or phone, or to leave a comment for council, has a tighter window: those requests are due by noon Monday. They can be made by voicemail at 843-579-6313 or through the comment form on the city website. Written comments can also be mailed to the Clerk of Council at City Hall.

The budget is not the only item drawing a hearing. Council will also take public input on proposed zoning changes covering short-term rentals and the city’s short-term rental overlay district.
