North Charleston, S.C. — More than 25 vendors and community partners gathered Tuesday at the Michael Brown Community Wellness Center to connect seniors with energy assistance and other local resources.

The free North Charleston Seniors Energy Assistance Day ran from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 2920 Carner Ave. Adults 50 and older could get energy-saving advice, legal help, safety information and health screenings through MUSC, along with help drafting a will or preparing for severe weather.

The City of North Charleston, CenterWell Senior Primary Care and Dominion Energy organized the event. Dominion Energy staff shared efficiency tips ahead of winter after a summer of high cooling bills and discussed financial assistance options for monthly utility bills.

Organizers said the fair also included customer education presentations and tours of the nearby Carner Avenue Senior Center so seniors and caregivers could find help in person without needing to navigate online systems.

Palmetto Community Action Agency will help people apply for utility bill assistance on Oct. 29 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Royal Missionary Church, extending the push to lower winter energy costs beyond Tuesday’s fair.
