North Charleston, S.C. — Lowcountry business leaders named affordable housing, child care and infrastructure as top challenges Monday as a statewide business group brought its 10-year economic plan to the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce.

South Carolina Manufacturers and Commerce presented Blueprint 2036: A Roadmap for South Carolina Economic Future during its statewide Vision and Voice Tour. The Charleston stop was held at the chamber offices at 4922 O Hear Ave. in North Charleston.

The Charleston Metro Chamber hosted the event in partnership with the Mount Pleasant Chamber of Commerce, Berkeley Chamber of Commerce, Greater Summerville/Dorchester County Chamber of Commerce and other community chambers.

Blueprint 2036 was developed in partnership with Grant Thornton and draws on economic research, national and international benchmarking, and input from business leaders, educators and policymakers across the state.

Its recommendations focus on improving the business climate, developing the workforce, expanding infrastructure, preparing competitive sites and supporting innovation. The tour began Sept. 15 in Lancaster.

SCMC says feedback gathered from stops across the state will help shape its 2027 legislative agenda.
