## Charleston Fire Department Appoints Emergency Manager

The Charleston Fire Department has selected Jon Stewart to serve as the city’s emergency manager, overseeing emergency preparedness and response efforts. Stewart’s appointment took effect on August 31.

Stewart will lead the Emergency Management Division within the Fire Marshal’s Office. This division is responsible for preparing for and responding to natural disasters, major municipal incidents, and other large-scale emergencies. Mayor William Cogswell noted that Charleston faces distinct environmental and infrastructure risks, including coastal storms and rapid urban growth.

Stewart brings 25 years of public and private-sector emergency management experience to the role.
