Clemson University has been named the top college in South Carolina for English degree programs in a new set of national rankings, adding another line to the university’s growing list of program-specific honors.

The ranking, part of a broader 2027 Best Colleges assessment, weighs a combination of federal education statistics and student reviews to compare English programs across the state. Clemson posted a 38% acceptance rate and carries an overall A grade in the same ranking system, based on nearly 3,900 student reviews averaging four out of five stars — figures that reflect both the university’s selectivity and how current and former students rate their experience there.

The English-program honor comes on the heels of Clemson also being named the state’s top overall college earlier this fall in a separate set of rankings that measured student outcomes, giving the university a strong run of recognition heading into the following admissions cycle.

For prospective students weighing in-state options for a humanities degree, the ranking gives Clemson’s English department a data point to point to alongside the university’s broader reputation, at a time when many students and families are scrutinizing return-on-investment for liberal-arts majors more closely than ever.
