# North Charleston police arrest man in gas-station robbery

NORTH CHARLESTON — North Charleston police have arrested a 22-year-old man they say followed a gas-station customer home to Dorchester Road last weekend and robbed him at gunpoint after asking whether he had any spare change.

Dameon Ronell King Jr. was arrested at his own home shortly after noon Wednesday and now faces charges of armed robbery and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, according to a police report released by the North Charleston Police Department. He was booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center, and no injuries were reported in the underlying incident.

Officers were first called Sunday to a Mobil 10 gas station in the 3600 block of Dorchester Road for an armed-robbery report. The victim, who was not identified, told an officer he had stopped at the gas station only to break a $20 bill and then drove straight home. Once he was back at his residence, he was approached by a man who struck up a conversation and asked whether he had any change; when the victim said he did, the suspect allegedly produced a handgun, demanded money and threatened to shoot him. The victim handed over the cash and drove away from his own address.

Investigators with the department later identified King as the suspect and picked him up at his home earlier this week. The department has said no other people are being sought at this time in connection with the case, and the broader investigation is continuing while formal charges move through the court process. Detectives typically use the initial police-report intake and any surveillance recovered from the gas station and surrounding area to build the case file that will be handed to prosecutors.

Court records for suspects charged with a violent-crime weapon count in South Carolina are handled at the general sessions level, and bond decisions in cases like these are usually set by a magistrate at an initial appearance. The Al Cannon Detention Center serves as the primary intake facility for Charleston County arrests, and inmate booking status there is updated on a rolling basis.
