# Funeral for CCSO Deputy Hendricks set for Sept. 16

A funeral service for Charleston County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Michael Wade Hendricks has been scheduled for 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16 at Faith Church, 337 Farmington Road in Summerville. Visitation starts at 10 a.m., one hour ahead of the funeral.

Deputy Hendricks was 33 and lived in North Charleston with his wife, Kayla Henson Hendricks. He was born Nov. 30, 1992, and died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2026, while on duty. The Sheriff’s Office has confirmed he was assigned to the Metro Unit and was killed in a collision on Ladson Road, between Highway 78 and Lincolnville Road, when his agency pickup truck collided with a tractor-trailer.

A memorial patrol vehicle has been placed in front of Sheriff’s Office headquarters at 3691 Leeds Avenue in North Charleston, and the public has been invited to leave flowers on or around the vehicle. His name will also be added to the Sheriff’s Office memorial garden. Neighboring departments across the Lowcountry have marked the loss in their own ways, with Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office deputies authorized to wear a mourning band and other agencies posting tributes.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to Serve & Connect’s Tragedy Response Program, which supports first responders, victims, and communities affected by traumatic events.

Arrangements are being handled by a local funeral home. Faith Church is off Farmington Road in Summerville, a short drive from the North Charleston area where Deputy Hendricks lived and worked.
