# TyTy Washington Jr. joins French club ASVEL

TyTy Washington Jr., a former first-round NBA draft pick, officially signed with the French basketball club LDLC ASVEL of the LNB Elite and EuroLeague on Monday, August 24, 2026. This move marks his departure from the NBA after four seasons in the league.

Washington Jr., who was the No. 29 pick in the 2022 NBA draft, will join a team owned by former San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker. ASVEL announced the signing, stating that the 24-year-old American point guard aims to advance his career and gain experience in European basketball, specifically the EuroLeague. The club highlighted his creative, explosive, and excellent passing skills, anticipating he will contribute significantly to their offensive strategy.

ASVEL noted Washington Jr.’s desire to continue his development at the highest level following his time in the NBA and G League. They described him as a modern point guard capable of creating his own shots, setting up teammates, accelerating the game, and taking charge in critical moments. He will wear number 3 for the team.

Despite facing financial challenges earlier in the offseason, with an initial budget of €59 million reduced to €24 million due to an investor shortfall, ASVEL was still able to secure Washington Jr. He will play alongside several other former NBA players, including Patty Mills, Jae Crowder, Joel Bolomboy, Yves Pons, and Tremont Waters. The team is looking to win its first French League title since the 2021-22 season. In the EuroLeague, ASVEL finished last in the league table with a record of eight wins and 30 losses.

Washington Jr.’s NBA career began after one season at Kentucky. Although once considered a potential lottery pick, he was selected by the Memphis Grizzlies, then immediately traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves, and subsequently to the Houston Rockets for Wendell Moore Jr. In his rookie season with the Rockets, he averaged 4.7 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in 31 games, including two starts.

He was later traded to the Atlanta Hawks as part of a five-team deal but never played for them, as he was traded four days later to the Oklahoma City Thunder. After a month with the Thunder, Washington Jr. was waived and became a free agent. He then signed a two-way contract with the Milwaukee Bucks, appearing in 11 games during the 2023-24 season. He also played for the Phoenix Suns in the 2024-25 season and the Los Angeles Clippers last season, primarily in the NBA G League, where he averaged 21.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 5.9 assists with the San Diego Clippers.
